Explosion

If There is an Explosion

For detailed information regarding Evacuation on campus, please refer to the Building Emergency Evacuation Plan (BEEP)

Remember:

If Evacuation is necessary, ALWAYS evacuate first. When safe and able call College Police at 619-388-6405 and/or 911.

Prioritize Immediate Safety

If an explosion occurs on campus, take immediate action to protect yourself and those around you:

  • Take Cover Immediately: Drop and cover under sturdy tables, desks, or other heavy objects that provide protection from falling debris or potential secondary explosions.
  • Stay Clear of Hazards: Avoid glass doors, windows, and areas with visible structural damage. Do not touch or move any suspicious objects, and do not turn light switches or electrical equipment on or off.
  • Evacuate the Building: Once the immediate effects of the explosion have subsided, quickly walk to the nearest exit, alerting others to evacuate as you go.
  • Assist Others: Help those around you, especially injured individuals or classmates/coworkers with disabilities, to evacuate. If you cannot safely move an injured or trapped person, note their exact location and report it to first responders immediately.

Mesa Specific Information

For Individuals who use wheelchairs or have mobility issues: Evacuation Stair Chairs are located in every multi story building on campus. These specialized chairs are used to safely transport individuals with mobility impairments or injuries downstairs during an emergency when elevators are unavailable or unsafe to use.  Instructions on how to use the chairs are attached to each Stair Chair.
