Prioritize Immediate Safety
In the event of severe weather (such as high winds, extreme rain, or lightning), take the following steps to protect yourself and others:
- Monitor Weather Alerts: Keep track of local weather reports and ensure you are signed up for emergency text or email alerts from the college and local emergency management.
- Stay Indoors & Avoid Travel: Remain inside during extreme weather events. Avoid driving, and never attempt to walk or drive through flooded areas on or off campus.
- Maintain Power & Communication: Keep your mobile phone charged and with you. Ensure you have emergency contact numbers saved, and keep a small personal emergency kit (flashlight, water, first-aid items) nearby if power outages are anticipated.
- Follow Official Directives: If a severe weather warning is issued, immediately follow all instructions provided by campus security, emergency management personnel, or local authorities.
Mesa Specific Information
Severe weather can cause localized flooding, power outages, or hazardous debris on campus pathways.
Report Storm Damage: Immediately report fallen tree branches, blocked storm drains, building leaks, or power failures to the Facilities Department so teams can secure the area.
Use the Facilities Work Order System for routine repairs, maintenance, or service needs that do not pose an immediate safety risk.
